The apparel industry is one of the most wasteful industries in the world. While I'm doing my part to change that, I thought I could educate and persuade you to follow. In the coming weeks I will be posting projects and ideas as part of a Recycled T-Shirt Project Series. The point of this project series is to get everyone participating, thinking, doing, etc. These are especially great projects for current and past students of mine to practice working with knits.
1.) Everyone has t-shirts!
2.) T-shirts see a lot of wear and tear, sometimes leaving them in such a condition they can't be donated or handed down.
3.) Stretchy, soft, absorbent...t-shirt fabric is pure gold! (okay, maybe only if you're a fabric nerd.)
4.) T-shirt fabric doesn't fray so I figured I could come up with some 'no-sew' projects that anyone could do.
For these projects I will be using t-shirts that are not in the condition to donate or hand-down (due to stains, holes, etc), but are still usable. While you incorporate your fall/winter clothes back into circulation, separate out the t-shirts you wore out over the summer and (RE)USE THEM!
Have you ever repurposed a t-shirt that was past its prime? I'd love to hear from you! Comment or message me. If I feature your idea in this project series, I'll send you a little gift as my appreciation for taking part. And if you participate in this project series, send me your photos! I'd love to see what you come up with.
