Intro to Sewing - JoCo Central Resource Library MakerSpace
Whether you have never used a sewing machine or just want to refresh your skills, this workshop can help you develop or brush up on machine sewing basics. During this workshop, I will demonstrate simple sewing techniques and give an introduction to using a modern sewing machine. Our MakerSpace machines are available to use during the workshop, but please bring your own if you have it. The workshop is not project based, but rather guidance based, depending on participants’ needs. We will have fabric scraps for you to experiment with. Please bring questions, projects, and machine issues you’d like help with. This class is free to JoCo library patrons, but registration is required. Registration opens 2 weeks prior to class and can be found on the library website events page.

Alphabet Wall Hanging: Beginner Sewing Project
Make a custom wall hanging from alphabet quilt blocks. This project will cover how to piece the blocks together and how to add spacing between text. Get ideas on how to incorporate the letter blocks into a variety of projects. All skill levels are welcome. Basic knowledge of a sewing machine is recommended. If you are completely new to sewing, we suggest attending one of our “Intro to Sewing” offerings first. The Makerspace sewing machines will be available for use during the class or you can bring your own sewing machine. Nesting Fabric Baskets: Beginner Sewing Project
Create your own set of nesting fabric baskets. This project will cover using a pattern to cut fabric and teach you how to assemble your baskets together. A copy of the pattern will be provided for you to take home and can be used to create baskets of all sizes. All skill levels are welcome. Basic knowledge of a sewing machine is recommended. If you are completely new to sewing, we suggest attending one of our “Intro to Sewing” offerings first. The Makerspace sewing machines will be available for use during the class or you can bring your own sewing machine.
